Systemic Counseling and Therapy

Do you have the feeling that your life, your relationship with your partner, or your professional situation is stuck in a crisis that you cannot resolve on your own? In my practice for couples therapy, psychotherapy and coaching in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg I offer support and guidance as you explore new perspectives and ways of addressing your problems.

Systemic couples therapy, psychotherapy and coaching concentrate on identifying problem-solving strategies for making positive changes in your life. In this process, I help you identify and access strengths and resources that you may not be aware of. I invite you to change your perspective on the issues you face with the goal of discovering and testing new coping strategies. Understanding the problems, their causes, and their impact on you, your relationship or your job situation can provide valuable insights in this process.

Therapeutic approach: systemic and integrative

The basic approach I work with is known as Systemic Therapy. “Systemic” means understanding a person’s behavior as a response to that of the partner, other family members, friends and colleagues as well as their social environment. In this context Systemic Therapy reads and addresses the client’s situation and issues as well as patterns of interaction. As a systemic therapist, I am interested (1) in what happens between people – seeing a person as part of a relationship, family or network and understanding the dynamics of those relationships and (2) in what happens within a person – examining a person’s patterns of thought, behavior and perception as they function in their social environment.

In addition to Systemic Therapy, I integrate other therapeutic approaches according to the specific needs and particular issues of the individual or couple. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT).

I am also trained as a Sex Therapist.

During couples therapy, psychotherapy and coaching, I pose questions and make suggestions to help you discover and test new or different ways of handling your problems. Together we develop concrete goals and regularly revisit and examine these as the therapy progresses. Throughout the process, I put a high value on providing an atmosphere characterized by trust, acceptance and candor.
